Not the same kind of human as his predecessor

An intelligent French person with a good knowledge of English is nevertheless likely to run into problems when listening to Donald Trump and trying to translate his words into French. He’s a bit like the Brexit. People look at what happened, but they don’t really believe that it should have happened. They ask: “ Was it really intended that this Trump fellow would be brought into the office of the presidency of the greatest nation in the world, or has there been some kind of a misunderstanding? ” A translator said: “ Trump’s vocabulary is limited, his syntax is broken; he repeats the same phrases over and over, forcing the translator to follow suit. It’s as if he had thematic clouds in his head that he would pick from with no need of a logical thread to link them. ” We stare in amazement at this clown and ask: “ Who brung him? ” It’s as if somebody left a door open, and this weird fellow simply walked in off the street.

Quand je regarde intensément cette photo, je me dis que la dame en bleu pourrait pousser un peu, et que le monsieur de l'autre côté pourrait atténuer la chute en appuyant sur le machin rouge. Autrement dit, le nouveau président glisserait et tomberait brutalement sur sa tête. Mais je sais que je rêve.

Il y a quelques temps, le gouvernement de l'Australie proposait aux étrangers un poste dans le tourisme : une sorte de stage permettant à l'élu chanceux de tester pendant un an l'offre touristique en Australie. En France, il y avait un certain nombre de candidats, et tout le monde intitulait ce job « le poste le plus extraordinaire au monde ». Je ne connais pas la suite, car on n'en parle plus, ni en France ni même en Australie. Je pense que leur projet a fait pschitt. Le job de « Survivant désigné » est destiné à quelqu'un qui remplacerait Donald Trump au cas où son rôle de président des Etats-Unis ferait lui aussi pschitt. Est-ce réellement un job en or ? Je ne pense pas. Mais... let's wait and see . Je préfère être optimiste. Dans tous les cas, je préfère surtout me trouver aussi loin que possible de l'endroit où la catastrophe pourrait se produire. C'est fou que l'on parle explicitement dans certains journaux français de la personne qui prendra...

Donald Trump dit tellement de conneries que l’on se demande si lui aussi ne serait pas une sorte de connerie permanente. Il a suggéré que le changement climatique était une plaisanterie chinoise qu’il serait obligé d'anéantir. Il a promis même de restaurer l’industrie du charbon. Trop de Trompe, c’est trop. Tellement de conneries qu'il finit par se fatiguer. Avant Noël, quand les “promesses” de Trump commençaient à se faire oublier un peu, le gouvernement fédéral à proposé des enchères sur une parcelle du fond de la mer aux alentours de l’Etat de New York, comme un site potentiel d’un vaste parc d’éoliens. Est-ce que la morosité engendrée par Trump allait tuer cette offre ? Pas du tout. L’intérêt était tellement énorme que les enchères ont grimpé à 33 tours, et nécessité l’ouverture d’une seconde journée de business. Finalement, le gagnant a offert 42 millions de dollars au Trésor fédéral. Ça fait deux fois ce qui a été obtenu au mois d’août pour l’achat de sites pétroliers da...

A few days ago, the former Ecology candidate Jill Stein claimed that votes should be recounted in three states: Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan. To obtain the necessary funds, she awaits the outcome of a national subscription appeal. Far away, in the UK, former PMs Tony Blair and John Major are looking into the possibility of a second Brexit referendum, which is still vaguely thinkable. Are such projects a mere expression of wishful thinking ? Or is the possibility of life after democratic death a real possibility?

Today, in the USA, is known as Black Friday . But I see that the Big Red Fellow is still alive and kicking. The dumb bastard is fitter than I'd imagined. But his time in office won't necessarily last long. I hope he's enjoying his existence, be it short or long. I wish him all that jumps into the minds of good American Christians: health, wealth and prosperity. As for the rest, I have nothing to say.

Their slogan is ludicrous: " Not my president ". No matter what they say, Donald Trump is indeed their president, whether they like it or not. At least for a while... But they seem to be waking up all over the land, as if they're emerging from a nightmare. In fact, they are ... even though the nightmare is still going on.

I don’t like to behave like an old fortune-teller who reads magic stuff from all around him. Over the last day or so, my mind has been invaded constantly by a conviction that President Trump will not last for very long. My imagination comes to a halt well before the New Year, probably even before Christmas… but my mind balks on what might happen to him. Meanwhile, let me turn to an old friend, Noam Chomsky . A journalist asked him: What effect would electing Donald Trump have? CHOMSKY : It’s hard to say because we don’t really know what he thinks. And I’m not sure he knows what he thinks. He’s perfectly capable of saying contradictory things at the same time. But there are some pretty stable elements of his ideology, if you can even grant him that concept. One of them is: “ Climate change is not taking place .” As he puts it: “ Forget it .” And that’s almost a death knell for the species. Not tomorrow... but the decisions we take now are going to affect things in a couple of decades ....

We shouldn't be too worried about Trump's victory. He might be able to earn dollars in real estate; but human beings need more than their personal wealth to change the world. They need intelligence. And Trump doesn't seem to have much of that. He will go down rapidly in world history as an American mistake. #Trump

Countries such as Canada and Australia might take advantage of Trump's win to attract high-level US scientists. In France, too, we might make an effort to attract various bright specialists in domains such as the development of military drones and artificial intelligence. Maybe Trump could do more for France, indirectly, than its current chief.
